Beaches
Being close to Port Ellen, Balaclava, our traditional 600 acre Croft, is a short walk away from the beaches and the quaint fishing pier, which is a must if you have young children.
Enjoy stunning views and walks along the beaches of Kilnaughton, discover the Singing sands near Port Ellen Lighthouse and explore the magnificent seven mile beach called the ‘Big Strand’. This beach runs along the edge of the famous & challenging Machrie 18 hole Championship Links golf course.
Distilleries
Perfectly located for Whisky Trailers as Islay Croft Cottages are close to three of Islays signature distilleries, Laphroaig, Lagavulin & Ardbeg.
Working Croft
Get a taste of Islay life as we are a working croft. Watch the sheep and cattle grazing alongside wild red deer on our heather clad hills & fields. This peaceful, idyllic location provides panoramic sea views stretching as far as the Mull of Kintyre & the Irish Coastline on one side & across Loch Indaal to the gentle hills of the Rhinns on the other, providing a spectacular setting for dramatic sunsets.
The Old Croft House, Balaclava Croft House and Spy House, our three self catering houses, offer homely luxurious comfort, light & space, privacy, stunning Islay views and not to mention time for a good Islay dram or two by the fire.

Our three self catering houses offer homely luxurious comfort. Bright and spacious with wonderful views to delight the soul, unwind and relax. There is a lovely open fire for those nights for relaxing with a dram or two.
The Old Croft House was rebuilt in 2010 to the highest standard designed to give you both traditional cosy comfort- but with a modern twist creating the ‘wow’ factor! Perfect for that special holiday.
Downstairs offers a “Snug area” with curved soft sofas around a stunning woodstove fireplace, spacious open plan oak kitchen / dining area opening to sunroom. Panoramic sea & hill views all around. Peaceful location on Croft Upstairs is master room with ensuite, 6 ft oak sleigh bed + double sofa bed overlooking magnificent picture window, a twin room + treble room, 5ft king & 2 singles. Balaclava Croft House is a delightful four bedroom bungalow sitting high up on the hill with breathtaking views over much of Islay.
Relax and watch the fishing & sailing boats come into Port Ellen Bay or watch the sun set over beautiful loch Indaal. The Spy House is a very romantic and idyllic getaway nestled high on a wild heather hill called Bein Leathaig (Broad Hill) overlooking the beautiful soft white sands of Kilnaughton beach and Port Ellen Bay.
On arrival the ‘VIEW’ will take your breath away with the most incredible 180 degree panoramic seascape. You will feel you are in for a very special holiday. Your only neighbours will be deer and a variety of birds flying by including sightings of Buzzards, Golden Eagles and White tailed sea Eagles. More information and pictures of The Spy House

How to get Here:
By Air: Twice daily, Monday to Friday 25 minute daily flights by Loganair from Glasgow International Airport to Islay Airport. One daily flight Saturday & Sunday. Contact Loganair.
Tel Islay Airport: + 44(0)1496 302022. This is the quickest way to get to Islay & can also offer spectacular views of the islands & Mull of Kintyre.
By Car: If you are driving to Islay from Glasgow the journey should take approximately 2.5 hours. Once over the Erskine Bridge & onto the A82 road along the shores of Loch Lomond, past Tarbet onto the A83 the drive is scenically stunning as you head up the ‘Rest & Be Thankfull’, down to Inverary Town along Loch Fyne & then on through Lochgilphead & continue on to the A83 road to the Kintyre peninsula passing through Tarbert to West Tarbert & a further 5 miles to Kennecraig, the Ferry Terminal. Look out for the Ferry sign.
Please take care if you follow your directions by Sat Nav from England as the Sat Nav will send you the shortest route but this will be a much longer journey via 2 extra small ferry journeys which do not even run from October to April so please ignore the Sat Nav when you pass Glasgow airport & keep on the road to Erskine Bridge & then join the A82 to Loch Lomand unless you have planned to take this longer but lovely route via the Portavadie Ferry.
By Bus: Twice daily West Coast Motors Bus Service operates from Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station which will take you to the Ferry Terminal just before it departs for Islay. Contact www.westcoastmotors.co.uk for more info.
By Caledonian MacBrayne Ferry: For Bookings & time tables contact www.calmac.co.uk or call 08000665000. The 2 -2.5 hour Ferry journey is a great relaxing experience & you will travel on either MV Hebridean Isles, MV Isle of Arran or MV Finlaggan, the newest & biggest ferry on the Islay run. You can choose to bring your car over or you can leave it in the car park at Kennacraig. More info on the Islay Ferry here
