Tankerness is a small settlement situated on Deer Sound, 5 miles south east of Kirkwall, on Mainland Orkney. Mine Howe excavations, at Toab in the south of Tankerness, is a popular attraction. This prehistoric subterranean man-made chamber was dug into a large mound. Whilst visiting be sure to check out the Sheila Fleet workshop, where you can acquire some fine celtic jewellery. Tankerness Loch is perfect for spotting birds or dolphin watching.
