Why the 15 best restaurants and cafes in Oban? Well, there is no doubt 2020 has been the year from hell for our tourist and leisure industry due to Covid-19. Small food and drink businesses have been the hardest hit, being the first to close and the last to re-open and with strict limitations. Here at Self Catering Scotland we are advocates of small businesses in the hospitality sector, especially accommodation providers, cafes, restaurants and pubs.
Currently the Self Catering Scotland Blog Directory covers Scotland, the Highlands and Islands. In this article we are focusing on the popular resort of Oban. Here is a round up of the 15 best restaurants and cafes in Oban that are independently owned. We have not featured restaurants that are part of hotels, although there is a bunk house and Inn listed that does offer some accommodation.

1 Kerrera Tea Garden and Bunkhouse – 01631 566 367
Home made food and based at the end of a circular walk near Gylen Castle this lovely cottage serves much needed refreshments. Being part of a bunkhouse it is a wonderful venue. In 2020 it is only open for takeaway and seated service between 12-2. Will close in September but bear in mind if you are booking in 2021.

2 Ben Lora Café and Bookshop –
Cosy coffee shop that also offers freshly made pizza delivered during the evenings. Books on sale and outside seating area. Based in Benderloch.

Pure Hebridean coffee roasters that roast beans in mountain air. Have a café on George Street Oban and also sell online. Delicious coffee and pastries that delight the tastebuds.

Ee-Usk means fish in Gaelic. A fine fish restaurant that serves local freshly caught fish, run by the Macleod family.

Fresh locally sourced food. Friendly staff serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and also afternoon tea with a tempting array of cakes. Roaring fire for colder days and outdoor seating for the warm weather. Located near Loch Awe.

Cuan Mor is Gaelic for Big Ocean. Restaurant on Oban Bay serving home cooked food with vegetarian options. Also serves tea and coffee and light snacks during the day. Fine beer, real ale and tempting desserts.

Fish and chip shop serving freshly caught fish from sustainable sources. Frying using Rapeseed Oil. Also serves shellfish and is known for home made Tartare Sauce. Takeaway or eat in (40 seater restaurant).

Contemporary restaurant in Oban. Opened in 2004 by Richard and Nicola Fowler Coast has grown to be a favourite of locals and tourists. Coast brings together the best from both the land and the sea in a creative menu offering local shellfish, fish, Scottish meats and game all prepared by Richard and his dedicated chefs.
Nicola and her front-of-house team are on-hand to provide a warm welcome, with an attentive but not intrusive service.

Based in Oban serving Eastern Mediterranean food. Created by the owners as a place where people can indulge authentic Eastern Mediterranean cuisine. The menu includes grilled meats, local Scottish seafood, dips and a good selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes.
15 Oban Chocolate Company
Oban Chocolate company is famous for its handmade chocolates on site. This delights visitors who can order online once they return home. But whilst in Oban take advantage of the fantastic cafe with beautiful views across Oban Bay. Sip a delicious tea or coffee whilst taking in the relaxing aroma of chocolate as the chocolatiers work away in the factory .
