No doubt thoughts are turning to getting away and living a life of luxury; after weeks of being cooped up at home, with restricted outdoor movement. Here is a snapshot of luxury cottages Islay Scotland.

 

Scotland is one of the UKs top destinations for visitors from around the World. However 12m Brits make it a destination of choice too. With staycations being the top holiday choice for Britons in 2020 it is time to start considering what is on offer for the discerning traveller.

We have been speaking to accommodation owners across Scotland and many are now Good To Go and are keen to take your booking. So, if you are thinking of heading up to Scotland, why not try a bit of luxury?

 

Currently the focus of Self Catering Scotland is Islay, Jura, Oban and wider Argyll.  We thought we would provide a brief snapshot of the finest accommodation that Islay has to offer. This is not exhaustive, with hundreds of fine cottages, apartments and camping facilities to choose from on Islay,  we just wanted to whet your appetitie to try something new if you have never been to the Hebrides before.

 

The Isle of Islay

Islay is a jewel in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Argyll in Scotland, offering abundant wildlife and 9 whisky distilleries. With 130 miles of coastline there are plenty of beaches and opportunities for walking, cycling and water sports. There are festivals for all interests including, Whisky, Walking, Music and Books. For the lover of nautical history  – Islay has records of at least Forty shipwrecks over the years.

 

Bowmore is the island’s capital and the other main towns are Portnahaven, Port Ellen and Port Charlotte.

The island is a mecca for whisky lovers with 9 distilleries to choose from.

Islay Old School Cottages

 

 

 

Based in Port Ellen, Islay Old School cottages comprise three separate self catering properties. Their unrivalled position offers breath-taking, uninterrupted views over the bay toward Carraig Fhada lighthouse, Kilnaughton beach and The Oa.

 

Beinn Mhor – Gaelic for the Big Mountain is a two-storey cottage with four double bedrooms.

 

Beinn Bhan Gaelic for the White Mountain has magnificent views across the bay to Carraig Fhada lighthouse and the Oa.

 

Beinn Bheigeir is a two storey, 5 bedroom house perched on the highest hill on Islay.

 

The accommodation is finished to the highest standard, being the renovation of an old school that was closed some years ago.

 

Islay Old School cottages are wonderful for families and groups and is furnished to the highest standard. Sleep soundly in the plumpest of beds and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of island life.

 

An Sabhal Cottages

An Sabhal Cottages Islay were originally the ‘minister’s steadings’, with stables, threshing barn. The cottages have every modern comfort and are midway between Portnahaven and Port Wemyss.

 

 

 

There are two cottages for let, one on the Portnahaven side, the west cottage, and one on the east side. The cottages are both identical.

 

The accommodation is spacious enjoys stunning views to Rhinns lighthouse and has an outside dining area.

 

Portnahaven has a small beach at the end of the harbour for children to play, alongside basking seals. There is also a Post Office, pub and convenience store.

 

Live the outdoor life with many excellent walks to take in the wildlife and diversity of birdlife, including such rarities as the Chough.

 

Port Charlotte Holidays

Port Charlotte holidays offer the ultimate in luxury and fine living home from home.  Choose from 3 modern apartments, two of which sleep 8 people and one that sleeps 2 for that romantic getaway.  Housed in the renovated Port Charlotte Hall, where modern living meets history and character. Or two 4 star luxury self catering cottages, both  of which have two double ensuite bedrooms and 1 twin room and sleep up to 6 people.

 

 

Port Charlotte is a pretty village of whitewashed houses nestled around a tiny bay with wonderful beaches and stunning views. There are restaurants and pubs and plenty to explore for those who love the outdoor life.

 

 

Persabus Cottages and Farm

Persabus Farm self catering holiday cottages, farmhouse accommodation and campsite is within walking distance of Caol ila Distillery, Bunnahabhain Distillery and Ardnahoe Distillery on Islay, perfect for whisky lovers.

 

 

 

 

This self-catering accommodation has something for everyone as you can rent a holiday cottage or camp. For those who are more creative there is an onsite pottery where you can try your hand at pottery painting!
