Port Charlotte Holidays Self Catering Accommodation

Here at Self Catering Scotland we like to feature our clients, this blog focuses on Port Charlotte Holidays Self-Catering Accommodation.

The hospitality industry has been hit hard this year and as we emerge from Lockdown and try to get back to a sense of normality, most people are immediately thinking of a break. With the end of Lockdown coinciding with our school holidays, most accommodation will be starting to get busy.

Port Charlotte Holidays is situated in the village from which it takes its name. Owned and operated by Margaret McCallum, her recently renovated properties will ensure that your stay on Islay is steeped in luxury and  history.

Three luxury apartments and two stylish and modern cottages have been architecturally designed and crafted from  the old Port Charlotte Hall building. The properties boast en-suite facilities, secluded outdoor living and spectacular views.

Port Charlotte Hall was originally built as a church but was never completed or used for that purpose and became a school for many years. It later evolved into a village hall and is now beautiful accommodation for visitors to enjoy.

Port Charlotte

Port Charlotte was created on the shores of Loch Indaal and is now a quaint village with stunning views. The original settlement was built by Walter Frederick Campbell, the Laird of Islay to house workers at the Lochindaal distillery which sadly closed in the 1920s. Bruichladdich is now the nearest distillery, which has obtained some of the original LochIndaal premises and are planning to open a Port Charlotte Distillery once more. Some of the original building is also in use as part of the museum.

Walter Frederick Campbell also founded Port Ellen, named after his wife and Port Charlotte his mother. Port Charlotte is adorned with white houses that on sunny days are reminiscent of a greek village.
