Out and About in Bowmore
If you have a passion for golf, great news, we are close to the wonderfu lMachrie Hotel and Golf Links. When you get hungry after a day on the move, come back, freshen up and then you can walk down to the Bowmore Hotel, Lochside Hotel or Harbour Inn Restaurant.
Of course most visitors to Islay are on a whisky tour and Bowmore having its own and oldest distillery means it is a must if you are staying at Aldrach Cottage. Even if whisky isn’t your tipple or you don’t drink, the history and the industrial process is fascinating.
If you are seeking a place of worship, or love architecture, then head up the hill to see the famous Round Church.
For those who like to keep active there are plenty of facilities for cycling, walking and canoeing on Islay, and Bowmore is a fantastic base from which to explore and enjoy the scenery and nature the island is so famous for. For less clement days there is a leisure centre nearby.

Aldrach Cottage has three good sized bedrooms that sleeps up to 6 people, which is ideal for families and small groups. Relax in our lounge that boasts super-fast broadband, DVD player and digital TV and Radio channels.
On cooler days, cosy up by our open fire.
We have a hoover, ironing board and cleaning products so all you need to bring are your clothes and food!
There are good storage facilities internally and externally should you want to bring bikes.

Bowmore Double Bedroom
Our bedrooms are themed around distilling. The Bowmore is a double room that pays tribute to our very own Bowmore distillery whisky. Surrounded by paraphanalia you will be inspired and feel the pure spirit of the Scottish Hebrides.
Beds made for comfort with linen to ooze you into a restful slumber, a real home from home. Plenty of storage with a built in double wardrobe complete with a full length mirror. There are two single bedside cabinets complete with touch lamps, so you can relax into a deep sleep on our comfortable beds with snug linen.
Botanist Double Bedroom
Our other double bedroom is themed around the Bruichladdich Gin Distillery, ideal for lovers of all things gin. Flora and fauna are the theme of this room to illustrate the the finer ingredients of gin. This may prompt a visit to Bruichlladdich, to learn more about gin distillation and indulge the taste buds!
Enjoy the plush double bed, with plenty of space in our double wardrobe for your garments, with bedside cabinets, lamps and full length mirror.
Hair dryers are also provided.
Laphroaig Twin Room
The famous Laphroaig Distillery is the setting for our twin room. There are 2 single beds, with bedding to match the famous green Laphroaig bottles, that are also in situ around the room.
Cosy room for children or friends, has a full sized mirror.
Bathroom
Our bathroom facilities have an electric shower and heated towel rail with a mirror and shaver point,

Storage cupboard with hoover, iron and ironing board, cleaning products and drying horse.
Lounge
Relax and unwind in the evenings. You won’t be cut off from the outside world as we have Super Fast broadband, and there is plenty to entertain you with our Digital TV with a BT TV box for extra channels.
Cosy up by our roaring coal fire. For larger groups there is a 4 seated dining table for evening meals and breakfast.
Keeping in with our whisky theme, the lounge houses a display cabinet with whisky artefacts and the aroma of the famous peat that makes Islay whisky so distinctive.
Kitchen
Entertaining is also possible as our kitchen is fully equipped and includes a cooker and washing machine, all cutlery provided based on max of 10 people. Get inspired to cook using our famous drams, here are some top whisky food pairings.
Outdoor Equipment
There is a drying line for those windy and sunny days to dry your washing, a picnic bench for alfresco dining and a shed for storage of bicycles and golfing equipment.

How to Get to Aldrach Cottage Self Catering
By Car: From Glasgow, drive to Kennacraig – this journey should take approximately two and a half hours, or longer should you wish to take in the beautiful scenery. Take the A82 up Loch Lomondside, turning onto the A83 at Tarbet – continue on through both Inveraray and Lochgilphead towards Tarbert on Loch Fyne. The ferry port of Kennacraig is just five miles on from Tarbert. Please note that Kennacraig is simply a ferry terminal and not a town or village. It is clearly signposted on the Campbeltown road, but people have been known to miss it because they were expecting more.

By Ferry: Caledonian MacBrayne operate the two hour crossing which runs throughout the year, including Sundays, occasionallywith additional sailings during the summer season. By Air: Loganir operates a 35 minute scheduled service, Monday – Sunday from Glasgow Airport to Islay, in the mornings and afternoons on weekdays. This is the quickest way and can provide spectacular views of the islands and Kintyre.
