It is a 3 bedroom house that sleeps 5 comfortably, it has one bathroom and one living/dining kitchen, heated by electric and also has a log burner for those cosy nights indoors. Within 5 minutes walk to local shops, and approx 10 minutes walk to a supermarket and close to all amenities.
3 Melvin Place is about 400 years old.
George Mackay Brown the famous Orkney writer lived there when he was a child.
It’s beams are made from old ships timbers and are still in situ today.
Stromness
The burgh of Stromness, on the west of Orkney’s mainland, is the islands’ major seaport. It first attracted sailors for the fine anchorage provided by Hamnavoe It has been a haven for mariners for centuries, being the last port of call before many a transatlantic voyage. Now it is the arrival point for NorthLink Ferries from mainland Scotland.
Winding streets follow the shoreline in Stromness, which stretches out both into the sea along private piers and up into the hillside. Explore the quaint alleyways and absorb the atmosphere in this 18th century settlement, which boasts an array of shops and cafes, as well as Stromness Museum and the acclaimed Pier Arts Centre.
