An Cala Self Catering Islay meaning ‘the haven’ in Scottish Gaelic. The self catering accommodation is a three-bedroomed house which sleeps six people in the beautiful conservation village of Port Charlotte on the shores of Loch Indaal in the Rhinns of Islay

An Cala self-catering holiday cottage sits very near the sea shore in Port Charlotte, on Islay’s sheltered Loch Indaal. With its open sea views, fresh air and the constant gentle sound of waves lapping the shore, a holiday spent at An Cala is the perfect antidote to an often rushed and noisy world.
The pace of life in Islay is gentle, and the friendly, whitewashed Georgian village of Port Charlotte is a perfect base for your holiday, close to stunning and often deserted beaches, to Islay’s eight distinctive Scotch whisky distilleries and to many of the island’s fascinating historic and archaeological sites.
An Cala sits right on the sea front near Port Charlotte’s small pier and sandy beach. With luck, from the kitchen window you may spot seals, dolphins, otters and some of the wide range of sea birds for which Islay is famous
An Cala is a traditional Islay cottage on two floors, providing guests with a quietly stylish base for your exploration of the many pleasures of the Isle of Islay.
Downstairs is a spacious, comfortable sitting room with an open fire, television, a piano and lots of books and art for visitors to enjoy
An Cala has an equally spacious kitchen/dining-room which is the hub of the house. The well-equipped kitchen includes an electric cooker with fan oven and grill, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.
For visitors who don’t wish to cook at all, the Port Charlotte Hotel or the Loch Indaal Hotel, both merely a short walk along the road from An Cala, offer excellent alternatives for lunches, bar meals, dinners or a bolthole for a quick dram!
Facilities
An Cala Self Catering accommodation comprises – Upstairs, the accommodation comprises three bedrooms; two double bedrooms, a family bathroom, and one bedroom with twin beds and an en-suite bathroom, sleeping six people in total. Two of the bedrooms look out over the sea, and settling to sleep with the sounds of the sea is one of many pleasant features of the An Cala experience. There is also a bathroom upstairs which boasts a long deep bath and electric shower.
There is free wifi available at An Cala.
Pets are welcome at An Cala by prior arrangement.
Getting Here
Getting To Islay
There is a regular daily air service to Islay from Glasgow Airport, provided by Loganair.

To book a through journey via London or other UK airports, www.ba.com can be used.
Caledonian MacBrayne ferries make several crossings daily to Islay from Kennacraig ferry terminal on the Mull of Kintyre. Arrival in Islay will be at either Port Ellen or Port Askaig. Both ports are equally suitable for reaching An Cala.

Getting to An Cala
An Cala Self Catering Islay sits very near the sea shore in Port Charlotte, on Islay’s sheltered Loch Indaal. With its open sea views, fresh air and the constant gentle sound of waves lapping the shore, a holiday spent at An Cala is the perfect antidote to an often rushed and noisy world.
Driving or cycling to Port Charlotte from the ferry port or airport is very straightforward:
Leave the arrival port, and follow signs towards Bridgend or Bowmore. Drive on to Bridgend and there take the signed turning towards Bruichladdich and Portnahaven, continuing towards Port Charlotte along the road which closely follows the shoreline. Pass through Bruichladdich village, and continue straight on to Port Charlotte.
Enter the village over a small bridge and take the first turn on the left at the Port Charlotte Hotel. You will now be on Shore Street and An Cala is the fourth house beyond the pier. The name of the house is etched in to the glass pane above the front door.
Travelling by bus.
Take the bus directly from the ferry terminal or airport and change in Bowmore for Port Charlotte.
