Islay is the largest of the Inner Hebridean islands. It is a mecca for Whisky enthusiasts as it boasts a high concentration of whisky distilleries given its ability to grow barley and the abundance of peat used to dry the grain creating fine single malt whiskies. The annual whisky festival draws visitors from all around the world every May. There is more to Islay than just its whisky heritage - wildlife, quiet roads for cycling, wonderful treks for walkers, the wild Atlantic coast to inspire writers and artists. There are a host of festivals throughout the year for lovers of literature, music, cycling, walking and rugby.
